How do you keep weight off a horse?

Post by aussiepep24 »

Q: How do you keep weight off a horse?

Radar, my 5-year-old, Belgian stallion has been gaining weight like no other. He's scheduled to be ridden three times a day with the maximum difficulty, but he just seems to be gaining more weight instead of losing weight. I've considered taking him out of the main pasture and turning him out into a new one that has little to no grass in it, but keep in mind that I'm looking for the least expensive option available.

If anyone else has this or has had this problem in the past, feel free to share your stories! The more I know the better. Follow the link to view my horse's page

Perhaps you could try mowing the pasture?

I have had the same problem with one of my horses- though I see yours isn't eating anything other then grass. Turning him out into a new one sounds like the best thing you could do if he's persistently fat :P

I think you should mow the pasture, I think that your horse is having too much fiber , you can give your horse feed if there is not enough grass.

Thanks for the advice, I'll try that.
