Hil's Color Question Thread.

Post by Hilayla »

I'm curious about this mare's color. She seems to have bay markings but red. I'm guessing she's chestnut with some dilution. Is she just a Chestnut with cream or is it something different?

She's a red dun (Chestnut + Dun).

Some tips on spotting the dun gene:
* The body is lighter than the face and legs.
* There is a dark stripe along the top of the back.
* There are sometimes stripes either on the top of the neck (as seen here), back, or legs (her mother has all three types of striping, for your reference).

I hope this helped!
