Re: Mongolian Horse
Hi! Anyone else working on fewspot/leopard? I got this colt recently, he is not purebred but I'm so excited!

Also, I have this guy up for stud (the fee is a bit high 'cause he is old)

Hopefully a few generations later I'll be there... hopefully... Who knows how long it will take though *sigh*
P.S. By the way, I'm looking for more colors to add to my herd! Interested in:
- black
- seal bay
- chestnut (no flaxen)
- tobiano
- grey
- cream

Re: Mongolian Horse
I'm not breeding for fewspots but I am breeding for a sooty varnish with mohawks and feathers. I do get LP horses from time to time because of this but mostly just blankets. The COI is getting out of control though.
This one is is pretty much what I'm going for but I want higher/thicker feathers and more variation in the coloring.

Re: Mongolian Horse
If anyone would like stock with loud Lp patterns to breed into your herds, let me know. I have several mares that I am done with that I would be happy to pass along.

Re: Mongolian Horse
I'm curious about how the process of using existing Mongolian genetics to make the new breed actually works. At least personally, I've found that a lot of Mongolians can start to get locked into a relatively small body size at generations +3 if you're not carefully breeding for large body sizes, which makes creating breeds with them much more difficult later on.
Is there a possibility that an inherent flaw like that will get baked into the new breed, which will make creating breeds with those base Mongolians even more difficult than it is now?

The Mongolian Horse is a small, hardy breed of horse best known for its role as a war pony of Genghis Khan. They were a key factor supporting the 13th-century conquests of the Mongol Empire. The Mongolian Horse is one breed with 4 distinct types: Tes, Galshar (bred primarily for racing, though not the most wide-spread type), Darkhad (well adapted to extreme living conditions and found in the mountain and taiga regions), Jargalant (a taller type found mostly in central Mongolia). There exists also another type in Inner Mongolia (China) called Ujumqin, which is raised on rich pastureland and is a much more refined type.
Description: The Mongolian bears a similar resemblance to the Przewalski Horse. It's a small, stocky built horse with a relatively short back and short but strong legs. It has great stamina and strength despite its small body. The most desirable animals should have thick legs, a large barrel, and a large head with a roman nose. Their mane and tail are long and thick, and the hooves are quite hardy, both traits that have helped their survival in tough living conditions.
Common Colours: All colours are possible but primarily dun, black, bay, chestnut, and some breeders prefer grey coats.
Common Uses: Riding, racing and transport primarily but also bred for milk and meat.
Country of Origin: Mongolia.
Dates of Origin: Thought to be many thousands of years old.
Current Status: Very numerous, estimated approx. 2.9 million animals

Re: Mongolian Horse
It's still happening. Larissa has been too busy with the art update to keep track, but this is a really big project that isn't close to done yet.
As the AC projects get more complex they will probably turn into very long term projects.
