Happy 20th Birthday Horse World Online!

We are celebrating 2 decades of virtual horses, and the amazing wonderful players who’ve been a part of our journey. Horse World Online is among the oldest horse games that are still running, and we’ve got tons more planned for the future.

This past year, since we’ve both been able to dedicate ourselves full-time to running HWO, we’ve accomplished a lot of things. From new servers, new front-end code, new back-end code, many gameplay updates and now we’re working on updating the horse artwork so we can add in more colour and white marking genetics including Frame Over, Splash, Sabino, Dominant White and more!

Our little game has been a quiet pioneer in browser based horse breeding games. Many don’t realize this but HWO was the first game to offer dynamically generated horse images, and currently the only game to offer browser based dynamic conformation with animated growth changes.

We’re excited about what the future holds, especially when it comes to our horse artwork update!

Here’s some previews of what the new horses will look like, and two of them are testing out our planned posing system by posing their heads and neck.

We hope everyone is as excited as us about these upcoming changes. We can’t give you a release date yet as there’s still a lot of work to be done, but you can follow along with us on our Patreon for weekly updated, and as soon as we have a release date, we’ll make sure to tell you all!

New art style looks beautiful, but I will miss the old one for sure It will take some time to get used to it
I am worried about my current projects, so I have a couple of questions:
1. Will old (born before the update) horses have new art too?
2. Will old pictures stay in horses' galleries?
3. Will the new art be as dynamic as the current one? I am especially interested in how graying will work (asking for a friend! lol)
4. There are so many updates planned... Will old horses stay in game at all?

Such hard work goes into this game and it's one of my favorite horse games to play even if I have to take breaks bc of real life.

As soon as I can I'm going to be purchasing all of the upgrades but I just don't have the cash right now, but for anyone who does they should definitely take advantage of the deal right now! All of the upgrades are only $52 together! That's a great deal!

That's one reason I like this game bc the owners and operators are very involved in the game play itself and that makes a big difference. Especially when y'all watch the forums and help out players and watch what we actually say would help the game or what we would like.

The above commenter does have some valid questions. I love how one of my studs just came out and I'm worried a bit about how the genetics will show up in the new art style.

I'll answer each of your questions and hopefully ease your worries

1. Will old (born before the update) horses have new art too?

The new artwork will only apply to new foals and new AC horses. Existing horses will keep their existing artwork.

2. Will old pictures stay in horses' galleries?

Yes, all galleries will remain 100% intact.

3. Will the new art be as dynamic as the current one? I am especially interested in how graying will work (asking for a friend! lol)

Yes, in fact the new artwork will be even more dynamic that the previous artwork, and will support even more new genetic colours (like Mushroom and Non-dun), as well as new white markings and patterns.

4. There are so many updates planned... Will old horses stay in game at all?

Yes, all updates are just additions to the existing game. We won't be resetting or deleting any existing horses.

The thing I like most, is that the artwork is just a better version of what we already have. Of course, I assume, it's the same artist But it's so nice to see that they don't change from being realistic to be cartoony or vice versa.

It can be difficult to match styles, so it's beautiful that you don't have to do that.

And SO looking forward to so many hints about what's on the way (in particular the dominant white and posing).

It's me, I'm the artist as well as programmer. I've gotten to be a much better artist in the last 10 years

This is an excellent question, and one I've been debating a few different ways. I'll have to wait until more of the posing system is completed before I can give a firm answer though. Also the posing system will come after the overall artwork update, but I'll still be able to play around with poses in the development side of things as it'll be important to keep the various poses in mind what setting up the new art.

Another thing to add about this game is that my friends love it just as much as I do and I have so much fun playing it. You have done an amazing job putting this all together, Thank you for everything you have done for people worldwide to play. It reminds me so much of my home life it is perfect.
