My horses with dark ear tips are bays, so maybe that's part of the bay coloration.

It's as sunandshadow said. It's because your horse is bay under that champagne and cream. :)

Interesting. Peanut has very light ear tips, but his sire does have dark ear tips Thank you :D

Thank you :D It was the 2-tone color that I found curious. Peanut has very light ear tips but his sire does have the dark ear tips.
I am not knowledgeable about color genetics at all; I wondered if it was coming from the tobiano in him.
Glad to now know he is Bay under all that dilutions :D Thank you

If you look at his lower legs, they are the same color as his ear tips. If he were bay, or if he only had one of either champagne or cream, the ear tips would be darker. But since he has both dilutions, he gets the lighter color.

Does that mean he is not bay then? not that it matters, i am not breeding for color, just curious :)
