Light ear tips
My little Peanut has very light ear tips. Is this normal genetics ?

Looking at his pedigree I just noticed his sire has dark ear tips and his dam also has lighter ear tips.
I s something like this hereditary?

Re: Light ear tips
It;'s just based on what color the horse is

My horses with dark ear tips are bays, so maybe that's part of the bay coloration.

It's as sunandshadow said. It's because your horse is bay under that champagne and cream.

Thank you

I am not knowledgeable about color genetics at all; I wondered if it was coming from the tobiano in him.
Glad to now know he is Bay under all that dilutions

Re: Light ear tips
If you look at his lower legs, they are the same color as his ear tips. If he were bay, or if he only had one of either champagne or cream, the ear tips would be darker. But since he has both dilutions, he gets the lighter color.TallPinesTraining wrote: ↑Tue Oct 15, 2024 1:19 am
Thank youIt was the 2-tone color that I found curious. Peanut has very light ear tips but his sire does have the dark ear tips.

Re: Light ear tips
Does that mean he is not bay then? not that it matters, i am not breeding for color, just curiousSilverine wrote: ↑Fri Oct 18, 2024 5:29 pmIf you look at his lower legs, they are the same color as his ear tips. Definitely dam lines. The sire has bay lines which doesn't look like the foal had taken up on the bay lines. And yes it can be normal as its just hereditary
