The Kentucky Derby Postponed/Coronavirus Discussion

Post by h a z e l 3 »

https://www.wdrb.com/news/kentucky-derb ... bc962.html

The Kentucky Derby has been postponed until the first Saturday of September due to the coronavirus :( (Hopefully this doesn't affect our Kentucky Derby in the game :D)

Is anyone on here in an area that has been hit by the virus?

I personally think that it's a little scary that everything is shutting down/getting postponed, but I also think it's comforting to know that this is happening to slow the spread, not because there's a danger of everybody dying from it. I'm glad the death rates for the virus are low- it's fairly easy to recover from if you're not otherwise at risk!

On the other hand, because of the virus, I'm working less for a while as the place where I work is only keeping around their full time staff and giving fewer shifts to the part time staff (I'm part time). :D

Thoughts anyone?

We just had our third confirmed case here in E.P.

I'm not surprised with it being postponed, it will in no way affect the one that I host.

It'* my area. Schools have been shut down, including mine, for at least 3 weeks. I heard rumors that we may not have school for the rest of the week. This year's track season has been changed too. We can't have normal track practices and/or track meets during the 3 weeks that the schools are shut down. We also can't be coached by our coaches in person.

I'm very disappointed, but I understand it's probably necessary. Even if they managed to keep the spectators from coming, just the jockeys and horses alone would be coming from all across the country. Also, there have been two people that have died from this virus in my area (both consistently traveled abroad), and I think there were 19 that contracted. I'm pretty much in self-quarantine right now, not because I'm sick as far as I know, but because I don't want to get sick. It's good that you only work part-time! There's a lot of people coming into those workplaces, especially grocery stores. :?
