So this is the mare I nabbed from the AC:

She has only a few snowflake spots.

I bred her to an AC Turkmene and got this girl:

Does this already count as "high density"? If so, Turkmenes are the breed that it's sometimes hidden in.

hmmm good theory!! Wonder if it's true!! Or does it only pertain to snow flakes?? I've tried it but always get the horses that aren't carrying the gene. lol

From the Appaloosa Announcement post:
"Snowflake Density
All breeds are capable of developing Snowflake Spots but one breed also carries a High Density Snowflake gene and one breed has an Extreme Density Snowflake gene!"

So it seems to only affect Snowflakes :)
Oh and I just now saw that irishrose came to the same conclusion.

I can put the Turkmene stallion up, if you want me to.

I'm not sure if that is dense enough to be different than a regular snowflake. I have a pure Shetland with lots of snowflakes, see below.
I have seen others with more dense snowflakes than my example that are also part Turk, so I do think that breed has either High or Extreme density snowflake genes. Maybe the Shetland actually has the other? I have quite a number of snowflakes, lots of variation in patterns.

I would like to breed one of my more spotty snowflake mares (the example above, or another one) to your Turk that produced that filly. I am quite curious to see what would come from a more spotted pairing.

Yes, I'm unsure, too. Maybe my mare is just especially sparsely-snowflaked? When I get a bit more room in my accounts, I'll probably make further experiments.

I'm quite positive that Tarpan is one of the breeds with extreme Varnish, though.

thanks for putting up for stud!!! This is the mare I want to test him with! Will the spots expand to different areas of the body or not??

If the Turk stallion really is the cause for the higher Snowflake density, you will probably only get a chance for more Snowflakes. You want to expand the larger pattern on her back, right? I don't think my stallion is right for this - Snowflakes seem to be caused by a different gene than the larger spots - but of course you're welcome to try!

Maaaaan I don't have many PT left and all the horses get at the AC don't have the right gene soo about 95% of my foals come out solid... But yes I'd love to expand the white pattern!!
