Figuring out the Appy patterns (updated)

Post by irishrose »

Is anyone out there working to see which breeds carry which patterns/genes? If you are, or if you have crossed the adoption center horses with LP complex horses, please share your results here. Let's work together to figure out those loud, flashy patterns!

I have acquired an Arabian mare and a Caspian mare to cross to my LP Shetland to see what the produce. I will post results here.

Also, I will be putting my LP stallions up for stud for others to use, especially for this project (located on my other account)

----------------------------------
LP (master switch)
  • Shetland Pony
  • Tarpan
PTRN1 (most white pattern)
Any theory?

Medium/Large Spots
  • Forest Horse: several results suggest this breed carries the Medium/Large spot gene
Extremely Dense Spotting
Any theory?

High/Extremely Dense Snowflake
  • Turkmene: I suspect the Turk carries the extreme density or high density snowflake genes after looking at some Tarpan x Turk crosses
Extreme Varnish
Any theory?

----------------------

STUDS

RA Wild War
- Tarpan. $2500 (lower for trade)

Hello, I am breeding for homozygous LP shetlands and then I plan to adopt five studs of each breed from the AC and will cross them all to the shets to see what crops up. Will post the results here.

I got big spots from two Forest Horses, nothing much from my 3 Belgians, shetlands seem to have some slightly bigger white patterns as well as the Lp. Didn't get much from my two Turks. Got a few other breeds in foal too, my spots and pattens I think are too small at this stage to see if I got different spot densities

I just bred two mares tonight to a Turkmene cross stallion with VERY heavy snowflake spotting. It's late, so I'll see what they produce tomorrow, but that stallion has reproduced his snowflake pattern on a colt out of his dam (who is not as heavily snowflaked as him).

I've been battling the temptation to buy a ton of pony tokens and go crazy with them. Blah.

This mare has been my best so far at giving me the bigger spots, but I need more white pattern. So the trick in the next generation will be to try and keep the big spots but with more white pattern. She keeps giving me colts or I'd try your stallion Anne!

I have this guy Image http://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/190886 He's a Forest stallion from the adoption center and I think he has genes that throw bigger spots. His offspring has larger spots that when I cross the dams to other stallions. Possibly a bigger blanket too.

Here's his offspring that has had bigger spots.

This is my 4th generation Appaloosa....he has a bit more spotted up his spine.
I love that no two spots are the same! I have not seen a horse with exactly the same spots or spot placement.
I'm trying to create an Appaloosa that has a blanket all the way up to the shoulders, this is soo excited! And such an addicting casual game learning genetics at the same time!

My Arab and Caspian mares are both in foal to one of my LP studs. I plan to grab up a couple more Caspian, as soon as I have the room, and see what I get with them. Still looking for those loud patterns!

My Shetland x Shetland and my Shetland x Belgian crosses have so far mostly given me snowflakes and small blankets.
