I have noticed that lightening of the legs, mane and tail in some horses but it only affects wild bays not regular bays. The plume gene would not affect only wild bays if it existed in the game as it doesn't in real life. For a regular bay with lighter mane/tail it is due to the LP varnish and will become more pronounced with age.
There's a sort of plume or something resembling plume on the game. If you check here the Lp gene was just recently introduced. All prior "plume" horses had no Lp genetics.

This horse, as example, possesses no Lp genes.

I just got back from an out-of-state trip to find some fascinating stuff in this thread! I personally love that we're still figuring this out and can all discuss the intricacies of such complicated genetics on here. It's definitely one of my very favorite parts of this game. And it's also great that I can be part of the discussion, even if only by a small amount.

Gaagii, I see you bought my boy with the weird mane/tail! :D Let me know if you find out for sure what his deal is. I'd bred him as a grinder, but I personally find his genetics much more interesting, so I'm glad he's going to someone who can tinker with and observe it.

Also, I don't know if anyone is interested, but I'm planning on keeping Skunk and opening him up for public stud once he's old enough, if anyone wants a new line of supposed-plume to play with.
