Re: Dun or not?
Doubull: Perhaps there is a shadow of stripes on the front leg. And also, maybe that masking on the body. But I see no indication of dorsal. Possible dun.stickers wrote:I'm out of turns for the night, so here's what I've got until I can play again tomorrow or monday night.BlackOak2 wrote:.

Regal Bullet: Sooty makes it difficult, but I see no signs of dorsal, masking or any other unusual telltale signs of dun at all. Probable no dun.
Doubt Bullet: Like Regal Bullet, but without any sooty. Probable no dun.
Black Bull: Grullo boy. He's not BLACK-black and I even see the color shift on his neck. He's most definitely a dun carrier.
As an example to a BLACK-black (this one has metallic):
Perhaps you can see the differences in the face, down the neck and especially there on the flank, where on your boy, it's defined and evident, but on the turkmene, you can't even see that flank flap.

Shoot, you're totally right. Now that I'm looking at things again today, that grullo is indeed obvious. Especially compare to the true black example. What a bummer.BlackOak2 wrote:.
I think I might pick up a couple black AC horses from a breed that has no dun and use them for testing, and then just plan on not keeping the offspring. We'll see how things pan out after that!

Belgian & Arabian, from the AC both guaranteed no dun (the only two).stickers wrote:Shoot, you're totally right. Now that I'm looking at things again today, that grullo is indeed obvious. Especially compare to the true black example. What a bummer.BlackOak2 wrote:.

The nice thing is that although difficult to find, they will pop up occasionally (unlike the double pearl NAB

Ah! Good to know. I'll go with Arabian then because I'm pretty sure the Belgians are where this cryptic expression is coming from (since it sure isn't coming from the prze and tarpans, haha). Don't need to make things harder on myself than they already are.BlackOak2 wrote:.

If there wasn't bad luck, there'd be no luck at all!
