Feed affect temperament???

Post by Ms. Trouble Maker »

My horses are all bombproof...yet I'm trying to get some to be more high strung for racing. I am giving some 20% alfalfa and 80% oats/sweet feed.....and no change. lol then I did 100% sweet feed...thinking the sugar buzz....nope still bombproof??

Feed does affect temperament. And it is hard to find the right mix, especially when feed can affect temperament so much. Barn feeding is the best bet because grass is notorious for bombproofing the horses. I think I did hear somewhere that corn might be a better bet. You can also mix that with oats to top it off.
High fiber diets are probably the key for bombproof while high protein and sugar could lead to the opposite. So... no grazing.
