Trying to get new breed, but created grade horse?

Post by okapi23 »

Can someone help me with some breeding issues?
I understand that a grade horse is like a mutt, but the breed guide said if I mix these breeds I should get a certain breed, i'm just wondering where I went wrong.
So I breed 'Spanish Casanova' who is a Part Andalusian x Spanish Barb [80%] and 'Nutella Hoofs' who is Arabian x Frederiksborg [50%]. This mix is said to create a Lipizzaner, but made a grade horse. Is it because the sire is only PART Andalusian? If this is the problem, will this sire ever be able to create a lippy? If this was the problem, can I use this sire to create a 50% 50% Anda and barb mix?
Thanks!

The stallion only being part Andalusian is not an issue. However, more goes into creating a new breed than simply tossing the pieces together. The resulting foal also needs to evaluate correctly for the new breed. If you haven't yet I would suggest purchasing a Lippizaner Book from the Book Shop. You can then go to your horses' profiles and use the book to evaluate them. When trying to create a new breed it is best to use a stallion and mare that evaluate well for that breed. But even if the stallion and mare evaluate well, that is not a guarantee that the foal will be the new breed. There is still an RNG aspect to it. If the foal comes out grade and you don't want to keep it anyway, I would suggest evaluating it to see exactly where it didn't fit the bill. This can help you decide whether you want to try the same breeding pair again or perhaps look for another.

(Just because a breeding pair produces a grade once doesn't mean they always will. Just as pairs that have created a new breed won't necessarily always make that new breed.)
