Re: What Is This Colour?
Grulla or grullo. (He could be carrying a single cream gene. Don't know what that would be called; smoky grulla, perhaps. He could also be sooty.)
As for how he's that colour:
His dam is a dunskin, that is: E/E A+/a C/cr D/d
His sire is a sooty palomino and, by inspecting his foals, I have concluded that he carries one agouti gene, so that would be: e/e A+/a C/cr STY/sty
Now, the foal has a 100% chance of inheriting an extension (black) gene from his dam and a 0% chance from his sire. (100% chance of inheriting a single copy.) Extension only needs one copy to show up. So: E/e.
From his dam, he has a 50% chance of inheriting the wild bay gene. From his sire, he has a 50% chance for wild bay. (In total, he has a 50% chance for inheriting one copy of wild bay, 25% for both two copies and zero copies.) He did not inherit any agouti (bay/brown) genes. So: E/e a/a
From both his dam and sire, he had a 50% chance for getting a single copy of the cream gene, 25% for both two copies and 25% for zero copies. He possibly got a single cream gene from one parent, so: E/e a/a C/cr OR (if he doesn't have cream) E/e a/a cr/cr
He had a 50% chance of inheriting dun from his dam (total: 25% chance) and did, so (and, for the sake of my fingers, let's say that he sis get a copy of cream): E/e a/a C/cr D/d
He had a 25% chance of inheriting sooty in total. No idea if he did or didn't, you'll have to wait and see, so either: E/e a/a C/cr D/d STY/sty OR E/e a/a C/cr D/d sty/sty
Hope this helps (and that I didn't make any mistakes
