Feeding foals
Ok unless they are free in a full pasture i find very difficult to feed foals between birth / One year old . Any tips on foals feeding ?

Well, I can say you shouldn't use Performance mix. It's a waste of money. I prefer Weight Gain mix.Nick Wilde ranch wrote:Ok unless they are free in a full pasture i find very difficult to feed foals between birth / One year old . Any tips on foals feeding ?
And about volume, I think it's a good idea to give them a little more than needed until 1 year or so. Foals are changing their appetites during this time.

Ok , i ll test that on my filly , thank you

Re: Feeding foals
The feeding system is bugged with foals in barns. It doesn't matter what or how much you feed them while they're under 6 months old they will still not eat enough to gain weight and energy. The only way to keep a foal fed until it turns 6 months old is in a pasture.

Re: Feeding foals
I have this same problem with my adult tiny horses

Re: Feeding foals
So sad we have to waste time we could use for training

Re: Feeding foals
You can start train a foal from the day it's born as long as you're keeping the foal in a pasture.

Ok . Do i have to leave the grass
?
?

Re: Feeding foals
Yes, the foal needs to eat at least 100% of its daily energy (preferably more since they are born with poor weight and need to gain weight as they grow up) in order to regain full energy the next turn. The foal has to eat both mares milk and grass until it turns 6 months old for this to happen.
