I need goal suggestions

Post by haltanny »

Ok, since I joined I have been breeding with no real goal in mind other than to get better foals than the parents. I've breed Shetland to Belgian, then added a little Arab, New Forest and Tarpon. Some more Shetland, a couple turkemene and NAB, and recently a heavy dose of Caspian. Its been fun playing with different combinations and genetics, but Now I would like to get my project figured with a goal! The problem is, there is so much here i like and I can't do it all! So I need suggestions on where to take my herd now. Based on what I have, what's a good project/breed/discapline to get into?

Overall in my herd, intelligence, agility and speed are my top traits. Strength is my lowest, and overall everything else is "average".
I have lots of black, creme, dun, champagne and LP horses in various combinations.
Breeds I have mostly mixed/part Caspian and mix/part Shetland, lots of grades, and a few assorted other breeds crossed in.
My herd averages 9 to 13 hands with the extremes on 19 inches to 17 hands.
Type overall in my herd is quite close to the horse-pony line, not too far in either extreme. Average build is medium, but I have several heavy and a few light builds.

You might want to look at show jumping for your discipline goal. You mentioned agility and speed are two top traits which are very important in show jumping. Other traits needed would be things like balance, tempo, etc. however you mentioned that is still mainly average, which should be okay.
