Identifying Dapple

Post by Neon4 »

I am trying to get dapples into my lines, and I have some ponies that might have dapples, but I can't tell.

I'd love to get some opinions on which ones are likely to start showing dapple, and which ones do and don't have the gene. My suspicion is that it wont display on chestnut ponies, but i'm not sure.

Some more information about dapple would be much appreciated, like when it will start to display and what base colours it can be seen on, thanks :)

Unfortunately, none of those horses are going to develop dapples. There are two kinds of dapple in the game, one is connected with the silver gene and the other is a variation of sooty.

For horses with the silver gene the only way for dapples to be visible is for the horse to be black. The second and the last horse of the horses you linked are black but they do not carry the silver gene. The horses with white/silver manes and tails carry the silver gene, but since they are bay they will not show any dapples. If you would breed the horses with silver manes/tails to a black horse you will have a chance for the foal to become silver dapple (since their father is silver dapple they only carry one copy of agouti which makes a black based coat bay instead of black).

The other way a horse can be dapple is one variation of the sooty gene. This one is pretty rare in the game but it is the only way a non-black horse can be dapple. I have this sooty dapple mare as an example:
