All colts no fillies?

Post by sadhi95 »

Is there a higher percentage to get a colt when breeding than a filly? Out of the 2 mares I've been breeding, all 6 foals have been colts. Not a single filly so far, and I really need fillies, so it's frustrating.

There is a small amount of anecdotal evidence -- my own and another breeder's -- that suggests that mares who are kept at moderately-thin to moderate condition are a little more likely to produce fillies than those who are allowed to get fat on unlimited grazing. However, I see that your mares are slender! (Unfortunately I have not kept comprehensive records.)

Undoubtedly someone else will assert that no, you just had, in effect, six coin tosses come up tails -- that the assignment of gender is left to the computer's random number generator, a specifically-designed portion of the processor chip. This, if it is the sole/final instrument of choice, really is as random as anything can be.

Sorry you had this difficulty; you can try to sell the foals. Or if you're desperate, "rehome" them. That is a drastic and irreversible command which, when you confirm it (click for the second time, after you get the "are you sure" message) removes the horse from the game database forever. Very serious actions in this game usually require two clicks, as in buying.

Another possibility is to buy another pasture See "Market" then "Farm Building". When you purchase a pasture -- or take it out of your own inventory -- it emerges with 15% quality. I see you know about supplements too.

Welcome to our weird little world; please read the boards when you can -- I've learned a lot that way.
Best wishes! Scythian :)

Only Larissa herself (or Tom) can answer this 100%.
I'm going with the foal's gender being completely random. You've probably just been unlucky.

Thanks for the replies! I guess I was just really unlucky, after 7(!) colts in a row got my first filly. A couple of the better colts I put up for sale and rehomed some of the others, since I really didn't need a massive army of colts, lol.

I've had the same scenario, I've bred 4 mares about 3 times each and always get colts, lol
