Unofficial HWO Recipe Sharing Thread!

Post by Alaina »

Calling all foodies, cooks, chefs, housewives, househusbands, housesingles! Whatever you identify as, if you are here, you agree with us on one thing: We love food! Cooking it, eating it, looking at it. We scour the internet relentlessly for that one recipe that will satisfy all our cravings at once. Maybe you have a great recipe that combines tuna and chocolate cake? Share it here! It may be weird but someone's probably interested (I know I craved it throughout pregnancy). Got a less weird, more mainstream recipe? Share that too!

I'll go first with a delicious mushroom in white wine sauce recipe.

Mushrooms in Creamy White Wine Sauce

Serves: 4

Ingredients:
1 Cup White Wine
2 Cups Heavy Cream
4 Cloves Garlic Chopped
100-200g Grated Parmesan Cheese
10 Good Sized Button Mushrooms Thinly Sliced
1 Small Onion Chopped
Mixed Herbs to Taste
Salt and Pepper to Taste
Olive Oil

Optional:
Water
Corn Starch

Instructions:
1. In a large pan (I actually used a wok cause it was easier for me) start the mushrooms, garlic and onion simmering on low heat in olive oil. Don't cook long enough to change the color of the mushrooms.

2. Once the onion has softened up a bit. Add the white wine and cream and slowly bring to a boil. Once boiling reduce heat and simmer for 10-15 minutes to allow sauce to thicken. Now if you like a thin sauce it should be fine, but if you want a thicker sauce (or opted to use light instead of heavy cream) you may need to mix some corn starch in cold water and add it. I used about 2tbs of corn starch and 1/3 cup of water.

3. While the sauce is simmering add your herbs, salt and pepper. I just used a pre packaged herb mix which included thyme, sage, marjoram and parsley and I added a generous pinch. I then just did a light sprinkling of salt and pepper over it. If you're not a very herby person you can omit this step altogether. You can even just opt to sprinkle fresh parsley after serving as a garnish.

4. The final step is to mix the Parmesan cheese in while the sauce is still warm enough to melt it. I added 100g of cheese but I LOVE cheese and feel I could easily have added up to 200g.

Notes: I recommend serving this delicious sauce over chicken and penne pasta.

I tried the mushroom sauce recipe last night with chicken and it came out great!

Here's one I'm doing tonight:

Beef Teriyaki Recipe

Serves 2 | Prep Time: 10 Minutes | Cook Time: 5 Minutes
Ingredients:
8 oz beef flap meat or tenderloin
Oil, for pan-frying

Marinade
1/2 tablespoon soy sauce
1/2 tablespoon Japanese cooking sake

Teriyaki Sauce
2 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons Japanese cooking sake
2 tablespoon sugar
2 tablespoon mirin (sweet rice wine)
1 teaspoon cornstarch (mixed with 1 teaspoon water)

Garnishing
White sesame seeds
Some chopped scallions

Method:

Cut the beef into strips, across the grain. Marinate the beef with the Marinade, for 5 minutes.

Mix all the ingredients in the Teriyaki Sauce. Heat up a small sauce pan and prepare the sauce. As soon as the sauce starts to bubble, remove it from the heat.

Add some oil to your skillet and pan-fry the beef, until slightly charred. Transfer the beef to a serving ware, and add the Teriyaki Sauce on top. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped scallions, if used. Serve the beef teriyaki immediately with steamed white rice.

Thanks for the recipe, Amber! I foresee a trip to the Asian supermarket in my near future! It reminds me of one of my own stir fry recipes that I love and will post here when I have a bit more time tomorrow!
