Weight & Feed Related Bug Fix

Post by larissar »

  • Changed the way feed energy intake requirements are calculated, all horses regardless of weight will now use a linear equation to calculate energy requirements. This may increase the feeding costs of your heaviest horses.
Fun Fact: We use the formulas as published in the book "Nutritional Requirements of Horses" to calculate the energy (DE) requirements for our HWO horses, however these formulas do not take into account horses as massive as the biggest horses in this game, causing some strange behaviour. Horse energy requirements in reality are not linear but researches do their best to calculate these values to help most/average horses. Horses and ponies on the extreme ends of the weight range have special needs that can't quite be calculated accurately. We've been using 2 sets of formulas, same as is generally used in real life, for the past 10 years in this version of HWO and it's taken this long for players to breed massive enough horses to reveal the flaw in the published formulas. For simplicity I've removed the special formula used for horses heavier than 600kg, and now all horses will use the same linear equation to calculate their energy needs. This means our biggest horses will be consuming an unrealistic amount of food, but hey (hay! he he) it's a game and sometimes we have to adjust :)

Re: Weight & Feed Related Bug Fix

I'm not sure, but it appears the fix may have affected the horses in my barn (my competition horses). They were suddenly eating too much (red numbers in their quantity boxes), yet yesterday, their rations were fine (they're all endurance stallions; an Arabian and two Part Arabians). I adjusted their rations until they were at 100% energy without red numbers. 8-)

EDIT

I took one turn and discovered that a lot of my horses' feeds needed adjusting! These are Arabian and Part Arabian mares and stallions in my pastures.
