Each breed may have only one topic. The first post in the topic is to be informative. It should help explain the breed, and breeding goals; advice on how to select mares and stallions; and links to ideal Stallions available for breeding.
Keeping a directory of breeders working on the same goal is also helpful.

Looking for a sponsor/breeding partner

Post by UltimateHonseness »

Hello, I am UltimateHonseness and I am trying to breed competition quality Pavlavans. A Pavlavan is essentially a taller Arab with a few extra steps as shown below
Arab x [arab x Caspian] = Persian Arabian
Persian Arab x Arab = Plateau Persian
Plateau Persian x Thoroughbred = Pavlavan
Yes it can be quite the process, but my efforts have paid off and I now have three Pavlavan Colts!
They are 32k+ GP with only 4% COI. Which lines up with my goal of making low COI Pavlavans due to the COI updates we will receive sometime in the future. However I cannot keep this pace up. Most of my early crosses have died off and finding a suitable thoroughbred was a struggle that’s left my stock diversity rather poorly. I’m trying to breed a few of my own thoroughbreds to get more unrelated Pavlavans but stud fees for small breeds are expensive and buying them also adds up quickly. In addition to all this my breeding program has made me aware of the frailty of a horses lifespan, though they have just matured before I know it my Pavlavans may be old with no progeny to continue their line and my little project will be snuffed out. There is a guide made by EmiisHeartless on getting your stock to be zero COI while still getting their GP to improve, and in order to maintain that you need 32 horses to start with. 32. 32 wouldn’t be too difficult if it was AC stock, like Arabs, but getting 32 Pavlavans is gonna be… difficult, especially making them unrelated. So I’m looking for 1 or more breeding partners to produce Pavlavans with me to reach this mark of 32 horses. Or with enough money I could keep expanding my farm and keep breeding horses and then transfer them to my main account to freeze before unfreezing everyone when I get 32. The thing is I just need help, no matter how big or small.
And as for my process? I followed the recipe, made sure my horses were up to their evaluation book standards and even though I was dealing with AC stock most of the time I made sure no horse that was involved in breeding had reds, this did sadly mean rehoming horses born with reds even though their parents breeder reports were colorless. I really hope to find someone to help me on this quest of mine

Hi! I would love to help out! I couldn't find any Plateau Persians, but I did find a mixed Persian Arab with 0% COI for stud only $500, although it's only 3* for Pahlavan.

Are you using mainly AC stock for the recipes, and do you have any other requirements besides low COI and no reds? Let me know if I can help!

Hmm, thank you for the stud recommendation!! I may breed to him to see what happens. Yes I mainly use AC stock due to it being easier to keep the COI down. I either adopt or buy the horses off the market. In the beginning I bought around 7 Arabs and 2 Caspians. I bred the two Caspian stallions to 2 of my Arab mares and the other Arab mares were bred to public Arabian and Caspian studs, most of these studs were also closely related to AC stock. The second generation of horses born on my farm consisted of Arabian x Caspian crosses and some purebred Arabs. I bred the crosses to the 2nd gen Arabs and again some Arab studs to keep things diverse. Through trial and error I got a few Persian Arabians. I then bought more AC stock and bred them to the Persian Arabians to keep my line fresh. Once again with a few failures I got a few Plateau Persian mares and stallions. The stallions have all unfortunately passed because I couldn’t find a TB mare to breed them to. But I did purchase a TB stallion for a few thousand and he had a low COI of around 20%. It took ages of searching to find him and my Plateau Persian mares were a bit older when he finally arrived. I bred the TB to two of my three Plateau Persian mares. There were a lot of failures at first but I finally got a Pahlavan from one mare. The other mare, her full sister, even with more failed breeding attempts never gave me a Pahlavan before dying. The successful mare gave me three colts before passing. The TB stallion is still alive and I have a few Persian Arabians but no Plateau Persians on my ranch now. I am going to freeze my colts and their father and make some more Plateau Persians before bringing the TB back out

I would appreciate that, however one of the breeds used in the creation of a TB, the Galloway, currently has no studs for use. Unless you know someone who has a Galloway stallion or breed them yourself you would have to make a Galloway as well

Just a little update. I've gotten 3 low COI Galloway foals and I'll start breeding them when they age. Hopefully it won't take too long to get a tb.

That would be great since I have one colt and I couldn't find and Akhal Teke mares on the market. I was just gonna use an AC horse, but that works too! I'll let you know when he's matured!

Ok thank you!! I bred the Akhal-Tekes from my own stock Arabs and public Turkmens studs, one older mare I bought but she may die before I can breed her.
