Discussion: Future of the Steeple Shets
So, when I first started my Steeple Shetland project, I was adamant that it was going to be a completely private line- especially because I've done all of the legwork (aside from a few people I've paid to train colts) myself.
It has been... a little over three years since that point. Everyone (well, most people who've been active in forums in the past three years or so) knows that the Steeple Shets are my babies, and one of the reasons I wanted to keep the line closed was so people couldn't piggyback off of my work and claim it as their own.
Knowing the uphill battle I've faced to get to where I am (just above 10:15 locals) I do not think many other players would be insane enough to try to replicate my breeding program
and if someone does, props to them.
I am considering putting some of my comp horses up for stud or selling slightly subpar foals in the future. I'm curious what people would be interested in (competitively viable vs. solid grinder stock- I've already reached grinder stock level scores) and how much they'd be willing to pay. I don't know what the "standard" of good scores is for player comp Steeplechasing, so input on that would be helpful as well.
I have no idea how well my stock would mesh with outside lines, as I simply have not tried- if anyone is willing to test, I'm down to hand over a stud or two I no longer use.
