Each breed may have only one topic. The first post in the topic is to be informative. It should help explain the breed, and breeding goals; advice on how to select mares and stallions; and links to ideal Stallions available for breeding.
Keeping a directory of breeders working on the same goal is also helpful.
All new threads must be approved.

Registration
Registration of breeding stock is not required. That would get overwhelming very quickly! Registration is only required for horses that will be competing in Association competitions and that have been submitted for the Studbook or Hall of Fame. If you're a member, consider your horses to all have basic registration
A horse must meet the following requirements to be considered for Quality-Assessed registration:
If parents are not registered:
Horse must be at least 3 years old
Horse must be of no less than 50% Appaloosa blood OR no less than 30% Appaloosa and no more than 50% quarter horse/pony, paint horse
(Appaloosa grade horse may be registered)
(Mixed appaloosa may be registered if at least one parent is at least 75% Appaloosa, Quarter Horse/pony, Pony of the Americas, and/or Paint Horse)

horse must be horse type or, if 14.2 hands or less, pony type medium-light or light
If only one parent is registered
unregistered parent must be at least half Appaloosa, Quarter Horse/pony, Pony of the Americas, Paint Horse, or a combination of the aforementioned
OR
Unregistered parent must hold a title in at least ONE discipline allowed under association rules (listed under disciplines)
If both Parents are registered
Foal is granted automatic registration IF
they are not under 13 hands
they do not exceed 18 hands
Grandparent Rule
Horses may be registered if at least 3 grandparents are registered OR if 2 grandparents are registered and one OTHER grandparents holds a title in an Association discipline
Quality Rating
A quality rating is given to each horse that applies for quality registration. It serves as an at-a-glance portrayal of the quality breeding stock the horse is in terms of the Association. It may not always ring true, and can be changed depending on offspring produced (if the owning member requests re-evaluation) and competition wins within the association or high titles achieved.
The only reason to request a quality rating and therefore listed registration is to enter the Association Competitions, be in the studbook, and/or enter the hall of fame Otherwise, all horses that fit the requirements of the Association is considered registered under the registered member. Horses with red stats or no highlights in their breeder report will be rejected Don't discount a horse because they aren't premium! They could still have an excellent competition record that worth trying to recapture in offspring! Just as a Premium Horse may not be a good competitor.

Re: Western Appaloosa Horse Association
Studbook
Mares and Stallion may be entered into the studbook. These horses serve as an example to the community as to what to strive for in their own breeding program.
Hall of Fame
These horses have accomplished great feats, like winning the Association Competition at the end of the year, or achieve high titles
