Pony of the Americas Breeding Question

Post by rubysale »

Howdy HWO,

I've bred many POAs in the past year, but something odd came up today. From what I've learned about making a new breed (from experience and various sources in the forum) is that the offspring must have a breed evaluation of 5 in the new breed. With POAs, if I breed an Appaloosa to a Shetland and the foal evals a 5 in the Pony of the Americas book, the breed states that it is a Pony of the Americas, not a Appaloosa x Shetland cross. Today, I bred a Appaloosa mare (not fully purebred) to a Shetland stud (fully purebred). It resulted in a filly that is "Shetland Pony x Appaloosa [50%]." What's weird about this is that she evaled a 5 from the POA book. Is this a bug or am I not fully understanding how this process work? I would appreciate if any of y'all could provide any insight/advice. I'll link the filly below.

Thanks,

There's never a guarantee of becoming that new breed, even if the foal is 5 star for it. It's only ever a chance.

The resulting foal does not even have to be 5 star to be the new breed. The higher evaluation only makes it more likely, it increases the chance of creating the new foal.

We have had foals pop in the past, with only 3 stars. That said, I've never seen a 2 star pop.

So, by breeding parent horses that are closer to the new breed, only increases the likelihood of the new breed. :D

I had no idea that was a thing. I have wondered in the past if the POAs would need to have spots of some kind to be considered a POA , but I've definitely bred some solid ones so i just assumed it only had to have 5 stars. Thank you for the help. Also your quick links page is where I've gotten most of my information about this game from so thank you for taking the time and putting that together; its a lifesaver.

Sure thing! That's what the quicklinks page was made to be... well, first I made it just for me, but then I had some feedback that it was super useful and helpful, so I expanded a big. :P

If you have any suggestions, changes or additions (as well as subtractions) to the quicklinks, let me know. I don't come across everything and there are certain things I can't experience (for example color blindness). So I do depend on the community to correct or update me from time to time. 8-)
