Why do people do this?
I keep selling perfectly good horses only for them to be rehomed. Its really sad because for me rehoming a horse is basically making it so that it never existed. Other people could be buying these horses but instead there are these people that just keep rehoming them.

Re: Why do people do this?
Please remember, the rehome button is your friend. If we didn't use it, the game would become Very Quickly and Completely overrun with horses that can't do much of anything. Yes, the rehome button deletes the horse from the game, but the horse is 'sent to a good home'. Should you never want any of your horses rehomed, then your best bet is to age them out yourself. Or find somebody that'll age them out for you.Lil-Starcast wrote: ↑Thu Sep 19, 2024 8:06 pm I keep selling perfectly good horses only for them to be rehomed. If you want your horses to be sold for profit (and because you think they're useful), then you'll need to change the way you advertise them. Highlight the good about them, if you're breeding for something specific (like really high speed or a silver dapple coat), include these things in the ad. Also it helps to say what you're end result goal is (like Arabs under 12 hands). Then put your prices up higher. Even if you want your horses to be readily available to everybody, this will lead to a number of players cleaning the market not just for unwanted horses, but also for those horses that will be making monies for players. We (the community) want to see all of our players succeed. One of the ways we do this, is to purchase up the horses that some other players put up for sale. We provide the funds and they reap the benefits of their work.
Should you NOT want to take advantage of this (and some players choose not to), then just apply a 'do not rescue, do not rehome' style message with the ad. Although this won't guarantee your horses won't be rehomed, this'll let certain players know that you've moved out of the area of needing money and are looking to offer your stock for useful purposes.
However, then there's the last group of purchasers. Some of us do purchase horses to be used in some way. But through testing or changes in plans, it can turn out the horse is no longer (or wasn't before) viable for what we wanted. Instead of putting the horse up for sale again and waiting for it to go to a new home, sometimes the most straightforward move is to simply rehome.
There is also one additional way to help with you. Only sell your horses that have a foal. No horse can be rehomed with a descendant. That said, you may be narrowing your purchasing pool by doing this. Some of us, in certain projects, have a desire to only purchase horses that have no foals (or maybe no living foals). Then of course, there're those that only are interested in horses that are proven for something.

Thanks for the explanation! I understand it now and feel more okay with people rehoming the horses I sell.

I'd just like to add to what BlackOak2 has said; and that is that some times a player will buy a horse to use as a grinder, and some players can go through the years very quickly, sometimes within hours, and the horse just ages out and is not rehomed at all.Lil-Starcast wrote: ↑Thu Sep 19, 2024 8:06 pm I keep selling perfectly good horses only for them to be rehomed. What I do is make sure any horse I sell and don't want just rehomed is to breed it once so there is a foal.
