Second Opinion Please!

Post by JulietG1231 »

Hi, I bred this horse and I am pretty sure he is a Bay Roan with Appaloosa patterning. I just want to make sure since his mane isn't black and the black on his legs doesn't fully reach his knees. I'm wondering if maybe he's a wild bay and not just a regular bay or has a different hidden gene that is causing his mane to stay light. Thanks for the help.

No your horse is not Wild Bay, since the black on his legs proceed up past the ankles.
This is one of my horses that is Zebra Wild Bay Dun

Notice the black on his legs only reach the ankles.

Yup, bay roan is correct. I just wanted to add that the lighter mane is caused by the Leopard Complex (= Appaloosa genes).
This guy is a bay dun:

If you click on his profile, you will see that his mane and tail have lightened to a very light grey by now.
