BR Comment Changed?
This colt used to have the comment
"Agile as a cat" and now it has a completely different one? What the heck

I was super proud of that one

Re: BR Comment Changed?
One of the updates forced a change in how random numbers are generated which made some of the comments change. The actual agility of the horse has not changed however. Your horse is still as agile as a cat.

Re: BR Comment Changed?
I have noticed similar changes in comments since I started playing again this week.
One in perticular that made me wonder what had happened is this horse:

This horse is part of my breeding program for lower HGP (for the quest). Since I have a list with all the breeders report comments and have made a code to keep track of what comments my horses have she apparently used to have this comment:
"Careful now! This mare looks like she'll fall over any second!"
But now the comment has changed to: "Seems to be fairly balanced, that's good."
Quite the difference when I used to try to get lower scores in balance, which seems to be a difficult task since I have never even seen a red comment in balance (or agility either for that matter). Maybe I will have better luck this time.

Re: BR Comment Changed?
The comment may have changed, but the actual number the comment is based on did not change. So what actually happens is there is a value, say from 1 to 10 and the horse has a value of 5. When the comment is generated it makes a random number of for instance +1, so that is added to the 5 value to give 6 and then the comment is taken from a pool of comments for 6. Then when we did the update the random number generator changed so maybe it's giving a value of -1, so now the horse has a comment taken from the pool of comments for 4. The actual value the horse is scored from in competitions and breeding is still 5. This is a simplified explanation of what happened, and we have taken steps so it shouldn't happen again. Larissa made a detailed post somewhere when this first came up. It was because we updated the server to a new version of PHP.Totina wrote: โMon Jun 17, 2024 2:19 pm I have noticed similar changes in comments since I started playing again this week.

The reason why we have the random number system to begin with is because we know our players are very clever and would make spreadsheets of comments to try to nail down exactly how good each horse is based on comments, and that system isn't meant to be that accurate.

Re: BR Comment Changed?
I confess, I am guilty of making such a spreadsheet! I have noticed that it is not possible to determine exactly which comment is better than another but there is a certain pattern for sure and I have a rough clue of what is about average and what is really good or really bad. It is usually good enough for my breeding programs. The only thing I have not figured out yet is how to get red stats in balance and agility but I will keep trying!Tom wrote: โMon Jun 17, 2024 3:14 pm

Re: BR Comment Changed?
Have to jump in here to say this:
When game developers need to purposefully code some randomness, to keep the game fair and to keep the players from back-engineering things... this is when you know you're working with, and playing with, and surrounded by, the best the world has to offer.
And I still can't find my smug cat gif. If I were talented, I'd make it. I'm not that good.
Ooo!
Burns would work great here!
