Not Your Typical Weight Question
So I have this horse: Heart Of Magic

He'd been in the pasture since he was born, so of course he got super fat. I'm used to young horses (between 1-2 years) that are in the pasture occasionally saying that they aren't eating enough food for energy, which I'm fine with because they're not in training. Heart Of Magic, however, has been doing this almost every day even after turning five, at which point he should be done growing. I figured it might be because he was overweight and he wasn't eating enough grass to support his weight, which I was also fine with because it would help him slim down and then he'd be fine. (The pasture he was in had not been mowed below 80% at any time, and even at 100% grass I was getting the message.)
However, even without eating enough his weight never went down. I decided to put him in my barn to slim him down and see if that made him "happier". He has been in the barn for at least four months now, on no food, and hasn't dropped a single pound. He has been at exactly 1,865 lbs the entire time. Is this normal?

Re: Not Your Typical Weight Question
I world give him some more time and see if the weight goes down. In extremely overweight horses it might take some time before you see the weight bringing to drop.

Keep an eye out. I had a mare exactly like that. She kept all her weight on until I started training and showing her daily.

I have the opposite problem in my pastures these days, most of them I can only keep half full otherwise horses get too skinny
