Please Help ID my colors!

Post by KatCoy »

I'm getting better at this color thing, but I'm still not confident. I think, that genetically this should be an Amber Cream Dun ... but again, I'm not super confident with my abilities yet. Please let me know if I'm close, and if I'm not where I went wrong.

You are correct on amber and dun, but she does not have cream. Neither do her parents. Her sire is labelled as amber cream, but is in fact just amber dun like the daughter. Your issue first starts with this horse. He is labelled as a smoky cream champagne but is actually amber cream. So he is bay-based with only one cream gene. He is just a lighter shade than some other amber creams, and the champagne lightening has brightened him up further with age. We can verify that he has only one cream by looking at his first living foal, who is correctly labelled as a bay dun. If he was in fact a smoky cream champagne the son would have inherited a cream gene.
