What color is he???

Post by RoseeDelight »

When he was young, I thought this horse was a cremello, but now he clearly is not, and I don't know what color he is. Maybe dirty palomino?
Also, I have now noticed that I have another young horse in the same pasture who is the same color except he has speckling on his shoulder and neck.
And I have a third horse, very young, who is the same color the one I linked was when he was that age.

HELLO, so that horse is known as a Brown Cream or his gene combination is double cream on a brown (seal brown) base. The blue eyes he has is known as Tiger Eye. SO he is Brown Cream w/ Tiger eye.
The other horse yous spoke about having speckling is most likly to have a gene called snowflake.
Feel free to link any horse to see if I can figure out what gene that horse has :D

Brown cream. It's on a brown base and has two cream genes. As a foal, I can see how it could be confused with a red base (cremello) and it can be confused with a bay base (perlino). But the pangare-like underbelly gives it away as a brown base. However, one must also keep in mind, that such a color can hide true pangare. I don't see him having any, so I'm sticking with brown cream.

You have a number of other young'uns in this pasture. So I'll go through them and you can have a second look at seeing if you missed anything. :)

https://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/2840237 - this one is correct.
https://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/2810316 - see the color shift on his underside? This isn't something a black-based (grulla) horse would have. This one, like a reverse bay (bay has black points, brown is opposite this with light points), indicates a brown base. Plus the yellowish pigment indicates the cream gene and there is also (though difficult to see) a lightening included in the flank and around the eyes, this is distinctive of pangare. And finally, the gray shading to the body, does indicate dun. So this horse is actually a smoky brown dun pangare with tiger eye. And those spots on the shoulder is the snowflake gene from Lp. This horse's color will change as he ages from varnish.
https://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/2939973 - This one is likely the other one you were mentioning. He is also a brown cream, but has snowflakes too.
https://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/2944266 - This one's a bit young, but even now, we can see she's been born with an 'adult coat' which means she has the graying gene. So, Graying buckskin.
https://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/2944333 - and finally, this young'un. Still a bit early to tell, but I suspect another brown cream. His dam appears to be a brown cream dun, not a grulla, with snowflakes, although the varnish makes it a bit difficult to identify her genes.

Thank you so much! I did not expect that much info on that many animals, but it's certainly welcome!
