Catch 22

Post by MistyMorn »

In an effort to make enough money to do courses, etc. I have to do local shows.
Which means in order to make anything useful I'm having to use every day I can get as fast as I get them.
Problem is, using those days ages my horses right out of existence before I can do much with them, sigh.
Hence,Catch 22 and totally frustrating.
Am I missing something here as far as making money yet keeping horses alive?
I've tried competing with different ones I have but just wasting money there.

You are allowed 2 accounts, i know many players have one account where they save special horses and Another for more ofa play.
However, I didnt find it that hard making Money. You just cant spend so much and keep doing locals. When you have a decent amount of Money and some good competin horses you can use both local shows and other competitions to make Money.

So, in other words instead of buying horses and putting in pastures, doing courses, etc. I should have just bought one not so great horse at a time and and done nothing but locals until I made a lot of money to start I guess.

Try to enter shows where there's less than 10 competitors. And yes try to create that horse with a good body build that will be good in showing...different builds will show differently.

For someone who is having money issues, you sure have a lot of horses and expensive pastures/barns/stalls, some of which are completely unused. I think your problem is primarily poor money management. You don't have to buy one mediocre horse and make lots of money to start off (I did, but that's because I needed to do so in order to meet my goals in a specific timeframe). What you need to do is not buy more than you can afford right of the bat; starting off slowly is always a good idea. Starting off with a few ownership courses to slightly increase your limits, and then some competition courses so you could host shows and make some income, followed by training course so you horses would perform better would have been a better route. And judging by the lack of cohesion in the sort of horses that you have, I would say that you don't have a particular goal in mind currently, which makes it difficult to buy and breed horses wisely. I would take some time to figure out what it is that you want, even just in general. Do you like a particular breed or discipline? Breed for that, and get rid of any horses that don't fit into this plan. Cull liberally and only keep what is useful to you.

Which is why I am broke, lol.
I know, which is why I'm not so sure I'm a good fit for this game, sigh.
I tend to be a hoarder as opposed to a true breeder.
I love pretty colors in any breed and am more apt to do color breeding.
Ok,need to get sorted out obviously.
I like the game but realized it's set up a good bit different that what I've played before after I jumped in feet first.
Thank you for answering one and all.

I'm finding the same issue, Misty! And I didn't realize that there was a strategy like, keeping one's best horses on a different account where time stands still, while one runs the shoes off the horses one doesn't care about using up. Hmmmm.

My best tip is:
- Set a goal, what breed / type / build / competition genre do you want to breed? With a focused goal the horses you breed atomatically ets better is my belief. And find someone with a similar goal and team up and use each others stallions in breeding or trade foals etc.
- Start small, with a few horses
- Do Local shows, they give you a Little Money and gives you XP (leveling up gives Money)
- Keep only the best foals for yourself, if you don't want to rehome, sell dem cheap (1 - 50 max price)
- Set a minimum Money amount, for example i started with 10 000. I did never go under that sum regardless how tempted I was
If I didn't have the Money I had to earn them
- Start the cheaper competitions and run a few a day, match with your horses potential.
- Create your own competitions and make a Little Money from the fee
