Foundation Forest Horse
http://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/91426
She's throwing me off. The darker legs suggest maybe a sooty bay, but she doesn't really look chestnutty enough for that. Then I was thinking maybe a dark champagne, but again, the dark leg up to the knee doesn't seem consistent with the champagne colourings I've seen? Bay dun? I am so useless at this.
Also, as an aside, does anyone know if foundation stock come heterozygous or homozygous, or is it a gamble?

Re: Foundation Forest Horse
Your horse is bay dun. A very dark bay, yes.
Dark legs --> bay.
Greyish coat colour + dark dorsal stripe --> dun.
AFAIK, foundation horses are a gamble in terms of hetero-/homosygosity. I haven't bred Forest Horses myself yet, but Arabians, Turkmenes and NABs have varied for me. :)

Re: Foundation Forest Horse
Thanks much! She's so dark for a bay! Do you think she's also sooty, or just very dark? How would you visually tell if a horse is sooty?

Re: Foundation Forest Horse
It's really hard for me to tell if she's sooty. She may be! I'm not sure if foundation Forests can be sooty, though (each ancient breed has some set genetics they are generated from; you will never get a palomino Arabian from the Adoption center, for example).
Her Dun makes it harder to tell if there's some Sooty going on, because it obscures so much.
Some sooties are very obvious, this horse is a chestnut that is made almost black by Sooty.
On this palomino you can tell by the dark "shadow" on its back that's out of place. This one is also quite easy to diagnose.
Maybe have a look at the appropriate section of Totina's guide. In the next post, there are bigger versions of the pictures linked.
So in your case it's a definite maybe from me.
