Horses Temperament chages/turn???

Post by Ms. Trouble Maker »

Am I crazy or does the horses temperament change as they age?? At first as a foal one of my horses started out as high-strung...then bombproof and now he is High-strung again.

I think that it changes depending on how you train and feed them. Lots of performance mix/oats/sweet feed pushes them towards being high strung, where as just pasture and hay pushes them towards bombproof.

I'm not sure tho, its just something someone said on the forum when I asked.

Bombproof is when a horse is very laid back and you can basically do whatever to them.

A high strung horse is one that is spooky, feisty, and just into everything.

    • Oh I was wondering why my show-horses have different temperament o3o
Does anyone know if you can achieve different temperament if you feed different combinations?
Think I will experiment with that.

So if a bombproof horse is very laid back then would it not show as well in jumping and barrel racing whereas a high strung horse would? Would a calm horse do better in trails? And I'm assuming if the horse is spirited then it probably has a mind of his own. Lol
