Breeding Half/Mixed

Post by Virgo »

One-lined question: If I breed a Belgian to a Belgian x Any breed, will it result in another Belgian or would it be a Half/Mixed Belgian?

Thanks :)

    • It usually takes several generations to get Mixed/Half this way. You would get a Part Belgian x Anything first and propably for another 2 generations, Than it depends - you can either get a Mixed or Half depending on pedigree.

If you have been crossbreeding for a longer time it will take a lot longer.
Fastest way to breed a "pure" again would be definitely by breeding a grade and breeding it with pure - http://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/64697

You will never get a Mixed or Half breed horse if you do a Breed A x Breed B cross. You will only get Part Breed A x Breed B until you reach purebred. To get a Mixed Breed A x Breed B, you must mix a minimum of three breeds: for example this mare is a Mixed NAB-Arab, produced from a Half NAB x Half Arab cross; her parents were the result of a purebred NAB or Arab bred to a Turkmene-Forest Horse cross.

[Part Belgian Ardennais x Ardennais] is functionally the same as [Belgian Ardennais x Ardennais].
