Books....
So I bought a breed book, thinking that I might eventually breed Highland ponies. Seems I spent $4000 on a book that doesn't do anything.
I currently have Arabs and Nabs crossbreeds that I am trying to breed back to purebreds, I know I need those for highlands later on. But I have no idea where to start from scratch, the book is no help, and it looks like I need a separate breed book for every breed along the way.
Maybe I won't bother after all.
P.S. do I have to buy books to get purebred Arabs and Nabs? *Groan*

Re: Books....
The books allow you to evaluate how well horses fit the breed standard for that breed. This is very helpful for creating a new breed since you can't tell just by looking how close your horses are to your goal.

Re: Books....
So, if I understand correctly, the book will only evaluate a highland Pony, but I can't breed one unless I have the book? But I don't need a book to create the crossbreeds to make a highland Pony? So do I need Nab and Arab books as well? Would it be a good Idea to make a halfway breed like Galloway first? * Confused*

- You dont need a book to create any breed. Books only purpose is to evaluate your horses so you know how close to new breed standards they are. You dont neet books at all, but they are helpful - you cant create a new breed if both parents will be too "fat" or tall for it. You have to adjust crosses many times to create new breed.
Highland pony is created [ Arabian x Clydesdale ] x [ North African Barb x Galloway ]
So other than ancient breeds like Arabian and NAB you need Clydesdale and Galloway. Both take several generations to make so you need to either create them, buy them or use someone elses studs to create crosses necessary for Highland Pony.

Re: Books....
Thanks! I bought the NAB book anyhow as mine are still crosses, but apparently they are four star for NAB! So I'm getting there. Think I will do a little bit of tinkering with them and the Arabs and by the time I'm done there should be enough Clydes and Galloways for me to be able to breed from or buy.

Re: Books....
Books are cheap in comparison to getting a foal of the intended breed! I've bought quite a few for quite a pretty penny and I've made a ton back just with showing.
Also I recognize you from hajinc! Hi! I'm Ichigo on there. This game is very much different from there, the goals are different by far. I don't expect anyone to be millionaires on here either.

Re: Books....
Well a highland Pony is kind of a long term goal. I don't expect to get one this side of Christmas. I'm very happy with the horses I have, it's nice that I can work towards doing something interesting with them.
