American Warmblood
AMERICAN WARMBLOOD

Wikipedia wrote:There is more emphasis on producing quality sport horses, rather than the preservation of any particular bloodlines, which allows for much diversity in the bloodlines of American Warmbloods.
Pony and Horse International wrote:They are distinct as compared to their European counterparts. The American Warmblood is a breed that is being continually improvised. Many breeders have adopted selective breeding in order to ensure the quality of the resultant offspring meets and exceeds the current standards.
SLO Horse News wrote:This opens up the doors for people to creatively and contentiously cross breed horses of multiple bloodlines to create athletes that have the proper type, temperament and athletic ability to be included into the “breed” and go on to become strong competitors in their respective disciplines.
History

Pony and Horse International wrote:The history of the American Warmblood spans many centuries and many continents. This breed is a result of ages of cross breeding the hot blood horses and the cold blood horses in order to get the right type of athletic horses. During their course of development they have been greatly influenced by the Arabian horses, Thoroughbreds, draft horses and the European Warmbloods.
SLO Horse News wrote:The American Warmblood is among a number of fairly new and emerging breeds whose supporters are dedicated only to the evolution of the sport horse. [...] though it has been shown that long before the registry was created, people have been cross breeding the “cold” blooded, larger boned European horses with “hot” blooded horses, like the Arabian and the Thoroughbred, resulting in a horse that has a consistent type, temperament and athleticism.
Registries
American Warmblood Registry is a registry with inspections for breeding stock. They accept horses registered with any of the major warmblood registries as well as the baroque breeds. The American Warmblood Society & Sporthorse Registry on the other hand, is more of a register for performance and will accept horses of any sport breeding based on performance. Stallions are accepted on their performance levels and given grading on what they have done sport wise.Breed Standard: Real Life

Wikipedia wrote:The American Warmblood is usually between 15 and 17 hands high and may come in any color, though the solid colors are the most common. Horses of nearly all bloodlines are eligible for registration as American Warmbloods, as long as they are of a sport horse or warmblood type, and are able to meet the appropriate studbook selection or performance criteria. The emphasis is on the quality of each individual horse, for both registration and breeding approval. While the ideal horse for registration is already a warmblood type, there are no breed restrictions for American Warmbloods. Breeding stock must be approved for breeding through studbook inspection, which requires mares and stallions to meet even more stringent inspection and/or performance criteria.
Pony and Horse International wrote:The height of the American Warmblood can be anywhere between 15-17 hands. This horse has a powerful walk which is well balanced. The head and the neck have balanced dimensions. Their large eyes are reflection of their alert nature. The muzzle has large nostrils that are capable of taking in good amounts of air. The bone structure is well defined and proportionate to the body.
The Horse Guide wrote:Its head borrows much from the Thoroughbred. It has good sloping shoulders with powerful, well-muscled hindquarters. A short back makes it an excellent horse for all riding events.
SLO Horse News wrote:Breeding is monitored through actual inspections and performance results. DNA testing is required for registration in both registries as a way to track and begin to create a good “foundation” for eventual generational breeding. Currently, the registries are open to different breeds and cross breeds, so long as they can provide certain information regarding their horse’s history and, most importantly, performance record. The American Warmblood typically stands between 16 and 17 hands in height, has a calm and attentive personality, three well balanced gaits, good bone and an athletic conformation. They are well known for being easy to train, ride and handle, and make wonderful mounts for less experienced or more timid riders. All colors are accepted, though solid colors (most specifically bay) are the most common.
