Bay genes question
Can someone please explain how you can tell (or show with examples) when a horse is likely to be:
1. EE/Aa
2. Ee/Aa
I've been looking all over the web but can't figure it out...
Thanks!

Re: Bay genes question
You can't tell by looking at them, only if they throw chestnuts or blacks you know they are heterozygous for one or the other

Re: Bay genes question
Can you get a black foal from 2 bay parents?

Re: Bay genes question
Yes, if both are Aa

Re: Bay genes question
You can tell a horse is Ee when the horse itself has a coat colour that's based on black (so black, bay, buckskin etc.) and one of its parents is a chestnut. It has to have inherited an e from there.Tigress wrote:Can someone please explain how you can tell (or show with examples) when a horse is likely to be:

When a horse is bay but one of its parents is black, it has to carry an a. So it's Aa.
