Foundation Color Genetics?
Do foundation horses carry all the color genetics? If so is it rare to get another color that is not currently in the bloodline?
For example: I just bred a pair of foundation bay Arabians and received a chestnut filly.

Re: Foundation Color Genetics?
It's not uncommon to get a chestnut from two bays in real life, they both just have to carry chestnut. The more rare colours are only in certain breeds, and only in certain horses not all

Re: Foundation Color Genetics?
So yes? Foundations do carry every color coat option for there breed? Foundations have no background so I have no idea what genes they carry.

Re: Foundation Color Genetics?
No. Shetland Ponies, for example, can be grey. But only the Arabians in the Adoption Center can carry grey (at this time, don't know about the future).ᴘ ʜ ᴀ ɴ ᴛ ᴏ ᴍ wrote:So yes? Re: Foundation Color Genetics?
That example doesn't make any sense, I am asking if a foundation horse (in general) carry or will carry all the color genes for his breed?
For example: If I have a bay foundation, does he carry the chestnut gene?
Foundations don't have a background... The question is simply, if I were to breed two BAY foundations are they capable of producing another color?

Re: Foundation Color Genetics?
I wouldn't think so....But there are so many shades of bay...If one of the horses is even a shade or two different then the foal will look different or carry both shades and not look like either parents.

Re: Foundation Color Genetics?
Hmm, alright maybe this guy will bay out then.

Re: Foundation Color Genetics?
There isn't really a Chestnut Gene. Chestnut is actually the lack of any other colour modifying gene.
A bay horse is just a chestnut horse with both a gene that allow black hairs to appear, and another gene that determines the placement of black hairs in the coat.
Your horse is a chestnut and won't turn bay.
The foundation breeds do follow their traditional colouring for the most part. The notable exception is Grey which is currently only available in the Arabian. Any colour can be bred into any breed with enough selective cross breeding.
