I need opinions on training.

Post by RoyalCrownAcres »

I have quite a few horses and am doing okay on money. I have a few nice show horses that are doing really well. I was going through my mares the other day and realized that I have horses that I completely forgot about and some horses that are just plain aweful. I was thinking about ways to keep this from happening and got an idea: What if I train all off my horses? It would help with money and help me keep track of my horses.
I only breed 2-6 horses a season (I breed at a certain time of each game year to keep myself from breeding for no reason). I don’t think it would be that hard to do. And worst case scenario, if they don’t work out as show horses I can make them permanent breeding horse. What do you guys think. Is this a stupid idea?

( I would start at the next foal crop I have after I finish my clients horses)

It can be very helpful, but it can be a hindrance as well.
If you don't have very many horses to train at any given time, then this can be a good way to decide what horse among your herd may have the genes you want to pass on (if you're aiming for a competition line).
Plus it can make horse's look very nice.
It really comes down to personal preference and how much time (and the individual horse's ability) you want to invest in constantly entering your show horse's into player-made competitions.

If your farm gives birth to just a few foals a 'year', you may be able to keep up with the training, however, if you acquire too many to train up at any given time, the approximately 3 year training turnaround can very quickly jump to 5 years or even longer.

Unless you do so for strictly viewing purposes (the pretty shine and muscle development), then the way I generally handle it is I don't train for showing purposes unless the particular foal appears surprisingly better then the parents, or I'm testing them for competition purposes or for breeding purposes... I don't just train for no reason. I have way too many horses to 'train' if I began doing that. But I'm a breeding farm after all! :)

If it were me, I'd weed out the bad horses, train up your current mares and studs to say 90% in each stat and keep the ones that place second or better at level 10 for the discipline you are breeding for. Then only train up new fillies if you are testing them for breeding purposes
