Can someone explain?
Hi! I've been looking through different things, and have been hearing a lot of different genetic terms and things about how to find and see genes and other stuff that makes very little sense to me, and nothings helping very much. Can anyone help me figure this stuff out, explain it? Thanks!

The community can certainly help to explain.Southerngal wrote:Hi! What exactly are you having issues with?
Genetics, even on this site is decently involved, but once you get a handle on it, it generally becomes fairly easy to understand. Some of the very basic words involved with genetics are (these are general understandings, some of my definitions may be inaccurately described if you take genetic schooling):
hetrozygosity - generally means different alleles for that gene
homozygosity - generally means the same allele for that gene
"doubled" gene - (something I use often enough) I use it to indicate homozygosity
allele - is one half of a command for the body to exhibit some characteristic.
gene - is the whole command for the body to exhibit some characteristic. They can be made up of few or many alleles.
Those are just a couple. Ask away and we'll try to help you understand what you don't.
