Effect of Dun, or something else?
I'm still learning the intricacies of a lot of genes, and now that my first generation horses are getting old enough to die off, I'm noticing things about some of their colorations that I'm finding I don't understand.
This guy here is a good example of the biggest question I have right now. He's what I thought was just a really dark Bay Dun, but now that I'm comparing him to his earlier mature adult photos, I'm noticing that he has actually gotten a lot darker than he'd started. Some of my other dark Duns are doing this too, and and I'm wondering if it's just something that Dun does, or if there is something like Sooty in there causing it? And I'm definitely talking about an effect that has nothing to do with foal coats; these are all changes in mature adults.
Thanks in advance!

He does look sooty to me, yes.
