Tobiano vs. Overo

Post by Hidalgo »

Can anyone explain to me the difference between tobiano and overo patterns? I've tried looking at pictures and charts and such, but I still can't tell what the differing factors are.

Have you checked out this page?

Big differences:
TobianoOvero
White may cross 'center line' (spine, underbelly, etc)White does not cross center
Less likely to have patches near eyes, but if patches around eyes are present the eyes will still be dark in color.Eye patches such as bald face are more likely. Will dilute the eyes to blue and possibly affect skin pigment around eyes.
Usually have white legs with black hooves, though not always.Usually do not have white legs.
So based on that, all of the horses I've seen so far in-game would be considered tobiano. But we won't know exactly what we have until/unless we're told by admins. :)

That's all very helpful, thank you! So for now it would probably be correct to just write the specific color and then add pinto... such as: Chestnut Dun Pinto or Brown Pinto?

Most likely, yeah. For my part I've only been writing the color, and sometimes adding Pintaloosa if they have both paint and leopard. XD
