Cream something / 2x?

Post by Nazarach »

So this one throws me off my game - dillutes again -.-' I'm pretty sure he is a cream if not double cream; but he looks a bit to yellowish for cream only, so could he carry champagne? He lacks the freckles (at least up until now) so I don't think so but it would explain this shade…
For his base I'm uncertain as well, he shouldn't be black (though the percentage wasn't too bad for that with his dam black a/a and his sire a Brown with At/a), which leaves only the Brown from his sire but as his dad has a frustrating habit of throwing chestnuts if it's possible in the least, again I'm not very confident in guessing on that...

So any help please? v_v

I see what you mean by carrying champagne. It certainly looks like he's a champagne with either one or two creams. But he looks like he may be fazing toward the bay range... which doesn't quite make sense.

My guess of the color right now would be an amber or perlino champagne. But dilutes are not my strong suit and I am not sure on this one at all.

Of course he could just be a very light shade of a smoky cream.

I don't see any other reasons immediately for him to be lighter, like dun and pangare (neither in his pedigree that I can immediately see), but there may be a hidden pangare on his dam side, or possibly a very, very gentle expression of dun on the stud's side. Again, I see no indications of these though.

So it wasn't just my typical stupid self finding him weird... I hadn't guessed that his sire may carry a very light dun, but it could be true I guess....? Well, seems like waiting and watching him grow up a bit more is the only chance to gain more insight :/
Many thanks for taking the time for answering :D

Anytime!
I'm sure somebody with more dilution experience will follow up eventually, quite probably after the colt's blown his baby coat.
Even though I said there's a slim chance for dun or pangare, don't jump at those. I think he's light just because he's light. Either way, I think he'll certainly be a very nice color and a great example of gene variation.
Congratulations for producing him!

So, he's now over a year and I think I can somewhat surely peg him as a Smoky Brown Pearl (E/e At/a Cr/prl t/N). The lighter Areas from the Brown are now visible just so and the yellow seems to come from the cream of his dam ^^' guess the mystery is solved then...

He turned out nice! Congrats. I especially like his chunky feet paired with a much lighter frame.

thanks ^^ yeah, I think his sire was the culprit of these feet xD his dam and some of her line were barely pasable from what I prefere of my abyss/arab/nab mixes ^^' so I'm still somewhat surprised he turned out that nice build-wise
