Feathered Arabian breeding?
Ok,so im kinda starting up a line of feathered Arabians, and was wondering what everyone knew about them? Because I just saw them yesterday and fell in love with them. I have a few questions if anyone can answer/ give me info on how I should go about it.
1. What age do their feathers appear?
2. What is the max age I will know if they will have feathers? Like, if they don't have them by ___ age they won't have them.
3. How many breeders breed them? Because I have only just saw them
I would love any help I can get! Thank you in advance!!

Re: Feathered Arabian breeding?
Hey there! Feathered Arabs are one of my personal pet projects. I think they're lovely and such fun!
1.) usually between 2 and 3, some are slightly later or slightly earlier. I tend to simply let them age to breeding age in order to not only check for feathers but thickness and fullness of feathers as well.
2.) definitely by 4, if they don't have them they won't get them.
3.) No idea how many are working on them but there are a few of us out there...I made a thread for them awhile ago http://www.horseworldonline.net/forum/v ... 19&t=11350

ok, thank you so much, I have noticed with my 1st round of babies now reaching 2-3 year range you can notice they have a little patch on there legs but nothing like the starter mare I bought for the project. Is that meaning they just didn't get the amount as their parents or it hasn't fully grown in yet? And, if I bred them would there foals be able to have the full feathers?deanimator wrote:Hey there! Feathers tend to be incremental so if you breed a mare with feathers to a stud without you'll just get the little tufts but as long as you keep breeding feathered horses to other feathered horses, they'll start to fill out until you get nice, full fluffs againok, thank you so much, I have noticed with my 1st round of babies now reaching 2-3 year range you can notice they have a little patch on there legs but nothing like the starter mare I bought for the project.
