Until registries are in place the Breeding Communities forum will be for players to work together towards creating or improving their favourite breeds.
Forum rules
Each breed may have only one topic. The first post in the topic is to be informative. It should help explain the breed, and breeding goals; advice on how to select mares and stallions; and links to ideal Stallions available for breeding.
Keeping a directory of breeders working on the same goal is also helpful.
All new threads must be approved.

Sumba

The Vehicle of Life
The Sumba horse dates back with the culture of its people nearly 600 years when they seeked refuge in the Sumba Islands, soon calling it home. Living amongst the Sumbanese people, these horses are not named by their owners. These animals are considered to be living relics, un-named nobles. The spirit of the horse is seen to be at the same level of their cultures ancestors who rule the universe. Sumbanese people do not believe they are worthy to give these horses names as it is to be improper to ever try harnessing such a free and powerful soul. Their people refer them to "The vehicle of Life."

Status: Extinct
Origin: Indonesia
Height: 12.0hh-13.2hh
Ancestor(s): Mongolian; Chinese stock
Development: The Sumba and Sumbawa ponies are the result of crossing two ancient breeds of ponies native to the islands.
Characteristics: The Sumba and Sumbawa ponies have a heavy head, short, muscular neck, and low withers. Sumba ponies are quick, agile, athletic, and fast, with great endurance and a willing temperament. They usually have primitive coloring, with many individual horses being dun with a dorsal stripe and black points.

Breeding Goals: Our goal should be to bring more Sumbas to the game (obviously), while eventually reaching breed standard and getting horses as close to them as possible!
Arabians and Mongolian horses have influenced the breed and can help bring in horses with Sumba blood in them and eventually breed them out to get purebreds since the breed is a rarity.

The breeders book will definitely help you evaluate horses for breed standard, but be sure to look out for stats as well as build!

I am sadly the only person I know of whose making these horses a priority and the breed I am focusing on. Feel free to comment any question or interest in joining me on bringing this ancient breed back to life!
