Need advice from experienced breeders!

Post by Hidalgo »

I'm kind of new here and only recently found out how much the horse's temperament affects their ability to compete. Not knowing that, I bred some Arabians with 70+ GP with up to 6 gold stats but they were all permanently bombproof, which I now know is bad (I can still use them for the 100,000 GP quest). So now I'm starting over again this time from scratch since I'll be able to better control their characteristics that way. Any tips for the best way to raise GP and such quickly? Also, I've read a fair amount about how some people think inbreeding is bad in this game and some people think it's fine. As long as I'm careful about which traits are inbred, is there anything else I need to watch out for? Any advice from experienced breeders is welcome!

It's all about what you're looking for. There are a number of ways to increase HGP quickly. There should also be ways to breed out the bombproof, if you breed to lines that have strong other temperaments.

I've found some proof that strong competitors will breed much stronger offspring. If you can find a line or a horse with a really strong (or a decently strong) competition heart and pair it with another of the same heart, then your offspring should have a decently high chance of coming out stronger (this based on my experiences training and competing my low GP herd).
You have the COI (inbreeding) understanding correct, it comes down to what you want and what others want. For instance, on breeds that have a high population on the game, I will personally reject anything with a COI higher than 35. But with breeds that are quite rare, I will accept a COI as high as 75. So it all depends.

As a last note about temperament, you can certainly breed in a certain type of temperament, but from my herds, it also seems to be much harder to do so. This could certainly be more of an inbreeding thing than breeding into a type (what I mean is, without heavy inbreeding, keeping to a type may take longer).

Creating new breed information can be found in the Help, Breeds Wiki (found on the left side of the page, it's in the drop-down menu).

Belgian Warmblood Creation
[ Thoroughbred x Hanoverian ] x [ Gelderlander x Selle Francais ]

Locate and purchase the book in the market to aid in creating your desired breed. The closer you get to 5 starred parents the greater your chance for the foal to become your desired breed.
