I see you got some of your questions already figured out! It's great when things work that way.

I wanted to answer a couple of your questions/comments directly.
The time between waiting for days and not really being able to do much besides cruising the forums and reading them, is really up to you how you want to handle it.
Some of the things I can recommend is: used a grinder (of some sort, this can be one of your own horses) in the local comps. Although it's random, any horse competing in local shows will earn days and pony tokens as well as money. You can increase this random chance by competing the horse in the highest level the horse can regularly earn first place (it's the first place that appears to most often earn days and pony tokens).
When you run out of days and want to wait around for turnover, I could suggest cruising through the help, breed wiki area and familiarizing yourself with the breed recipes. Once your tutorial is complete, completing the quests will earn you quite a bit of experience, money and pony tokens. If you level up, your days will be refilled as well as earning you a bunch of pony tokens and money.
I'll also cruise the market and see what other players have recently posted for sale, sometimes there's really good deals, right now finding a grinder will likely be the best money-making horse for you. But this will also help you identify market prices and trends.
And of course, keeping an eye on the news feed is always handy, but you figured that out already, I think!

We can't create 'anything'. What Bitapetrone meant was that we can create a horse that can look very different from reality. So within the parameters the game gives us, we can make mini-sized arabians that are only 16 inches tall or giant-sized fallabellas that press 17 hands. We can also breed in 'bunny' ears to our horses (they're the ears that are super tall), or have a horse that looks like they're legs go 'all the way up'. There's a lot of give to the parameters the game allows us, so the horses can be truly customized on this game. (Plus every once in awhile, admins will sell a costume piece of the unicorn horn, so they may not be true unicorns, but they'll look like one)
The game is still in heavy development, there's a lot of things that aren't yet available, so such things like the curly coat on the bashkir curly breed doesn't yet exist in the game.

You already figured this out, but you needed 5 approved posts to be able to post immediately and also to access chat. The community is quite used to answering a number of newbie questions that pop-up, so it certainly does seem like we're a bit psychic, but we're not. At least, not that we'd generally acknowledge! hehe! So we weren't able to see your posts immediately, not until they were approved. But now that you have more than 5 posts, you can post immediately and can see it that was as well.
Finding people in the chat is hit or miss. I'm one of the players that don't visit chat, but there are a lot of others that do. I think you just happened to hit it during the off hours, plus it's the holidays, so we have quite a bit fewer players on at the moment.
