Until registries are in place the Breeding Communities forum will be for players to work together towards creating or improving their favourite breeds.
Forum rules
Each breed may have only one topic. The first post in the topic is to be informative. It should help explain the breed, and breeding goals; advice on how to select mares and stallions; and links to ideal Stallions available for breeding.
Keeping a directory of breeders working on the same goal is also helpful.
All new threads must be approved.

WABR - WEST AFRICAN BARB REGISTRY

Post by Rikkiri »

The WABR
West African Barb Registry
BREED PROFILE
The West African Barb is found in the western most regions of West Africa. It is a light horse used for both riding and as a draft animal. The foundation breed of the West African Barb is the Barb. Most West African Barb horses are gray and small. The Barb generally possesses a fiery temperament and an atypical sport-horse conformation, but nevertheless has influenced modern breeds.

The Barb horse is noted for its stamina. It has a powerful front end, high withers, short back, a sloping croup, and carries its tail low. It is hardy with clean legs and sound hooves. It does not have particularly good gaits, but gallops like a sprinter. It was used as breeding stock to develop racing breeds such as the Thoroughbred, American Quarter Horse, and Standardbred. The predominant color is gray, but bay, black, chestnut, and brown horses are also found. The Barb stands 14.2–15.2 hands at the withers.

BREED FORMULA FOR HWO
[ Arabian x North African Barb ] x [ North African Barb x Forest Horse ]

Registration REQUIREMENTS
If you are a breeder of WAB's, then go ahead and request that they be listed here. I may or may not create an actual website for them someday - I haven't decided yet. In order for your WAB to be registered with the WABR, they must have these requirements.
  • *14.2 - 15.2hh in height

    *COI% less than 30. (STUDBOOK < %20 COI)

*HGP Above 35. For Stud, it must be above 45HGP.

    *Any color is accepted.

    *At least 4* WAB Evaluation.

    *No Red stats.
WHY THE WABR?
I have noticed a disappointingly amount of good WAB's on HWO. There are very few good ones available for improving lines or creating new breds. Since the WAB is one of the more ancient breeds needed for, well, pretty much all of the currently popular breeds - I figured being able to list breeders of them, or even just have a list of good quality WABs would be useful.

Currently, the WAB is my focus breed - so it only makes sense.
CURRENT WAB BREEDERS
WABR STUDBOOK
  • *Currently Empty
WAB REGISTERED HORSES
  • *Currently Empty
I may or may not add onto this as far as requirements goes, or touch up the lists a bit. Such as adding Proven studs etc.

I'm not focusing on them per se, but I am currently trying to breed some suitable for making a typey Sorraia (and other Spanish type breeds). I currently have two studs. The nicer one for Spanish breed creation is this guy and is currently up for stud: http://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/1622648

I also have his half brother who is a silver bay roan, but lacks the head, mane/tail and general look: http://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/1638660
I don't have him listed for stud but can if someone is interested
