Until registries are in place the Breeding Communities forum will be for players to work together towards creating or improving their favourite breeds.
Forum rules
Each breed may have only one topic. The first post in the topic is to be informative. It should help explain the breed, and breeding goals; advice on how to select mares and stallions; and links to ideal Stallions available for breeding.
Keeping a directory of breeders working on the same goal is also helpful.

Sorraia

Post by Nazarach »

Hello fellow breeders,

here you can post anything related to Sorraias - be it questions, stud advertisements, asking someone for a breeding or just sharing your joy about your Sorraias :)

The breeds needed for the Sorraia are:

[ Tarpan x Mongolian ] x [ Tarpan x West African Barb ]

Breeding from scratch goes as follows (idealy):

1.1 [ Przewalski Horse x Tarpan ] -> Przewalski x Tarpan [50%]
1.2 [ Arabian x North African Barb ] -> Arab x NAB [50%]
1.3 [ North African Barb x Forest Horse ] -> NAB x Forest [50%]

2.1 [ Przewalski Horse x Tarpan ] x Tarpan -> Mongolian
2.2 [ Arabian x North African Barb ] x [ North African Barb x Forest Horse ] -> West African Barb

3.1 [ Tarpan x Mongolian ] -> Tarpan x Mongolian [50%]
3.2 [ Tarpan x West African Barb ] -> Tarpan x WAB [50%]

4. [ Tarpan x Mongolian ] x [ Tarpan x West African Barb ] -> Sorraia

Much luck to you all and thanks for every help or offer posted for players here :D

raising stats always seems to be a problem with the pony breeds ^^' And I wish you much luck with your goals :)
May I ask what you try to keep as 'destinctive' points? It could help to know for the instance that someone here has any stallion that would help you.

I'm still not far enough in my breeding plan for the Sorrraia but if I get there I'll certainly put up any stud if someone asks :) I do have Mongolians coming in (slowly) and some Tarpans with ok-ish hgp, so if any of them could help you then feel free to ask :D

Hello other Sorraia breeders (and fans)! I'm both excited for this breed because it's the farthest I've gotten so far in my grand quest toward Campolinas, and because it seems like such an interesting breed all on its own. I'm also hoping to breed as true to type as I can, which I'm hoping won't be too terribly hard with its base breeds.

I have one filly and one colt so far, and I can't wait to see how they grow up. I lucked out that their progens, including the WABs, stayed in the dark dun/grulla range, so I'm hoping that they will also have that classic dark Sorraia look. My newer Sorraia prospects are unfortunately lighter. I'm also hoping for the convex profile, but I have no idea how that one will work out yet, as the progens have been all across the board on that front.

well, colourwise, I try to stay clear of leopard and white markings. Dun is compulsory, looking for marked stripes, preferably on a brown base but I'm being a bit more flexible on that one

regarding conformation, I'm not too picky yet but I sure would like to get that convex head at some poin.

Argh, I so wish we had a possibility to downgrade a new breed to a cross instead. Had a very nice filly born that should have been half-of-Sorraia, nice eval too, just 1*, but all other measures are on the side that is usually hard to reach - a bit too bulky, a bit too pony, a bit too medium :D But instead of a right cross, she is Hucul :(

I'll list my half-of-Sorraia stallions, if anyone finds them useful, feel free to ask me to stud them, if they're not already at stud:

WAB x Tarpan:
Kosmo C - http://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/1599926
Ursus C - http://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/1642309
Mister C - http://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/1675477

Mongolian x Tarpan:
Eddie C - http://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/1664543
Foryal C - http://www.horseworldonline.net/horse/profile/1679574

Only Kosmo is already old enough, but the others will be there eventually too :)

I'm also breeding for Sorraias, but I'm currently sidetracked in trying to improve the parent breeds, particularly the Tarpan and Przewalski (Did you know there's a much easier name for that breed? Takhi, from the Mongolian people who live in the area). I have two WAB colts, one is a roman nosed grulla, and should make some very typey foals.

Hi there, nice to see another one join the crowd ;) Feel free to have a look if some of my Tarps or Przes can help you :) Which breed did you refer to as also being called Takhi, the Przewalskis? In either way, it's nice knowing that, do you come from there being so familiar with these breeds? It would be awesome if you could have a look in their breeding community topics and add your knowledge for the describtion :D
