Sorraia finally!

Post by redster »

After long last, I've finally bred my first Sorraia! I got so excited, I just had to post somewhere about it. I know there are other folks out there trying for the same breed (and others working for different rarer breeds) so I thought maybe someone else might like to see, or share their own breeding accomplishments too.

I'd originally wanted to post my success in a Sorraia thread on the Breeding Communities board, but there doesn't seem to be one. Maybe if there is enough interest, we could start one?

Mystify

Her stats aren't great, but there are no reds, and she has 0% COI. I'm hoping to keep my Sorraia line at low-to-no COI, and work on their stats as I flesh out their numbers. I'm also hoping to keep them looking like their real-life breed, which I think should be blissfully easy in this case, with how much grullo/bay dun/coyote dun is in the progenitors that I currently have. Also, I'm laughing because the mare that finally threw her was the one that had the lowest Sorraia breed conformation out of my herd. I'd almost gotten rid of her before this. She'd only been named "iffy 2" until she gave birth to Mystify.

Any thoughts, collaboration ideas, or advice on how to proceed from here would be welcome too!

Congratz to her, so cute ^o^ yeah, sometimes the parents don't have to be closest to the 5* eval but being on the ends of the spectrum can cancel each other out and the foal could end up in the middle ;) or sometimes with neither parents being too close they can throw extremes in some parts of the confo.

That is something I think is best when breeding; and keeping the COI low to 0% is better in case they implement incest related illnesses or mutations at some point (then I'll be watching the Arabian breeders with popcorn  ) ^^

When I'm at the point to breed Sorraia I'd look forward to activly participating in such a thread, but we could open one beforehands (I just won't be really able to help apart from advices regarding breeding, color or book-related evals :/ ) so yes, we can certainly open one - though I wonder, there isn't one when there are breeders that seem to breed them/with them fairly often? ô.o curious...

I am working towards Sorraia at the moment, but for me they are just a next step in my project of breeding a Holsteiner from scratch :) So far no luck for me, but I am in early stages yet, just one half-of-Sorraia cross mare old enough to breed. Her first two foals were too much horse type, change of sire - too pony :D Then too horse again from the same sire. Second mare is now bred for the first time, fingers crossed for Sorraia :)

The comment about the Arabian breeders killed me. I choked on my coffee.
And yeah, I was really surprised that I didn't see a Sorraia thread. I might have missed it, but I tried to look pretty thoroughly. Maybe the current breeders aren't very active? All of the people I've seen lately who are aiming for them are just starting out with the breed (and using them to get to another breed, including me, haha).

Ah yeah, I'm breeding Sorraia to eventually get to Campolina, which will include Holstein along the way. And boy, let me know how that goes, because my pairs just would not successfully throw a Sorraia for ages. If you ever want to use any of my half-of-a-Sorraia boys (or my Mongolians or WABs) for a breeding, let me know and I'll put them up. I did just put Mystify's sire up for stud because he managed to successfully make a Sorraia, but he might not be the half that you need.

Glad someone appreciates my sadistic tendencies xD Well, having a few of them around for breeding some new lines of our intended breeds won't hurt ;)

I wish you luck as well for the Holsteins, they are a beautifully elegant breed I've already seen in real live so I hope you'll have success :) Let me know if you'd need any of my horses, helping fellow breeders is a must for me on this account as I myself am liable to bug others for their horses as well xD

So maybe starting with us three we could open a Sorraia thread? as mentioned, it seems like a good idea for putting up possible studs or just offering a place others could look for possible sorraia holders.

I was actually planning on going through your farms again soon, now that I'm planning the next steps of my giant breeding project. I haven't forgotten that I need to pick studs for that contest win, haha.

And I would love to have a Sorraia thread, even if we just have a couple of folks like us who are still trying to get a foothold in the breed. Maybe the other Sorraia breeders will stumble across it at some point and joint in. :D

Take your time xD as I said, it's currently very slowgoing.

I am all for it, but I should warn you I am a slow player, usually taking no more than a couple of turns per day on average (might not show up at all during the weekdays, and then make a game year or so on weekend more often than not).
I have a 5* Mongolian x Tarpan colt growing up, but he's still a weanling, he will be up for stud when he's old enough:
Eddie C

Also a nice very bulky part Tarpan whom I use for making the half-of-Sorraia crosses (he has 2*, but is too bulky instead of too slim, and only an inch over the height limit):

Skulk is really nice, but he's a bit too small, and my currently only WAB x Tarpan mare is also on the smaller side. I have a filly growing up who looks like she'll be bigger, then she is for sure going on a date with Skulk :)
I'll take a look at your other boys, thanks for offering :)
